Standout duo played vital roles in @RaginCajunsSB gaining ground in Sun Belt standings at App State

NEW ORLEANS – After playing key roles in No. 10 Louisiana Softball’s sweep at Appalachian State, juniors Alissa Dalton and Summer Ellyson swept the Sun Belt Conference’s weekly awards.

Dalton, who reached base in all eight plate appearances and finished 6-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and six RBI in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, received the Community Coffee Sun Belt Softball Player of the Week award.

Ellyson struck out 19 batters, did not allow an earned run and limited the Mountaineers to just seven hits over 14 innings as the Ragin’ Cajuns swept the matchup of the two teams atop the Sun Belt standings. Those efforts earned her the Community Coffee Sun Belt Softball Pitcher of the Week award.

Dalton picked up her second SBC weekly award this season (won on March 26), while Ellyson repeated as pitcher of the week and claimed her fifth award of the season.

Louisiana, which has received at least one SBC Player and Pitcher of the Week award since the inception of the league in 2000, now owns 92 player of the week and 86 pitcher of the week awards in program history.

Louisiana (38-4, 18-0 Sun Belt) wraps up its East Coast road trip to North Carolina on Tuesday in Greensboro with a 5 p.m. (CDT) contest at UNCG, then returns home to Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park for a Sun Belt series with Georgia State over Easter Weekend (April 18-20).
