Cubs rally past ‘Cakes, 3-1
Des Moines – Ryan Court picked up three hits and drove home two runs to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Sunday.
Iowa won two of three in the series and have defeated New Orleans in nine of twelve meetings.
The ‘Cakes scored first with a run in the fifth inning on a RBI double from Austin Dean. Iowa answered with a run in the bottom of the inning with a two out ricochet off the pitcher by Court.
Cubs scored the go-ahead run in the seventh and added an insurance run in the eighth.
Alberto Baldonado earned the win and Cory Mazzoni pitched the ninth and earned the save.
The ‘Cakes return home to play Reno on Tuesday.
