CCS high school football streams

NEW ORLEANS – Two key district high school football battles in the metro New Orleans area will be streamed live this week on Crescent City Sports.

CCS has coverage of Thursday’s District 6-5A matchup as league co-leader Slidell visits Ponchatoula and Saturday afternoon’s District 9-5A showdown between Archbishop Rummel and St. Augustine.

Thursday’s 7 p.m. matchup at The Swamp has Slidell (5-1, 3-0), who shares the league lead with Covington, heading west on I-12 to defending district champion Ponchatoula (3-3, 1-2).

The Tigers have rattled off five straight wins since a season-opening overtime defeat to Jesuit and are doing it with defense, allowing an average of 12 points per game. The Green Wave, which reached the Class 5A championship game a year ago, has been in more than its share of tight games this year, with its three district matchups decided by a combined nine points.

Last week, Ponchatoula went to Mandeville and came away with a 36-35 victory, while Slidell topped Hammond 32-21.

The Tigers are eighth in this week’s unofficial non-select Division I power rankings released by the LHSAA, while the Green Wave ranks 28th – which would be the last spot in the revised playoff bracket for 2022.

Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game from historic Tad Gormley Stadium – which will be a simulcast of the radio broadcast on NASH ICON 106.1 FM – pits two teams looking to stay alive in the Catholic League race in Rummel (4-2, 1-1) and St. Augustine (5-1, 2-1).

The Purple Knights have averaged 38.5 points in back-to-back victories over Jesuit and Holy Cross, while the Raiders are looking to bounce back after consecutive losses to Scotlandville and John Curtis Christian.

If the season ended today, both teams would have first-round byes in the 24-team select Division I bracket, according to the unofficial LHSAA power rankings. The Purple Knights are currently fourth, while the Raiders are eighth.

Coverage on CCS begins at 6:50 p.m. Thursday and 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

The Crescent City Sports team is in its 12th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced more than 400 live streams since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2022-23.
