Country Day, St. Martin’s, Christ Episcopal capture state cross country titles

The LHSAA Cross Country Championships got underway Monday in Natchitoches at Northwestern State’s Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

Country Day captured the boys Class 1A state title behind the effort of Will Odem, who won the individual state title in a time of 16:40.1. St. Martin’s Episcopal finished fifth.

St. Martin’s won the Class 1A girls team state title.

Isabella Bartholomew led the way for the Saints, finishing second in the individual competition.

In the boys 2A competition. St. Thomas Aquinas finished fourth. Peyton Chiasson of Pope John Paul II finished second in the individual competition with a time of 16:19.1.

In the girls 2A competition, St. Thomas Aquinas finished second, Newman was third and McGehee finished fourth behind winner Episcopal.

In Class B boys competition, Jake Tornillion of Christ Episcopal captured the individual state championship over the 3-mile course in a time of 16:21.1. Christ Episcopal finished as the runner-up in the team standings to Episcopal of Acadiana.

The Christ Episcopal girls also finished second to Episcopal of Acadiana.

Svenya Stoyanoff of Christ Episcopal won the individual state title in a time of 19:03.1.

In the Class C boys team competition, Grand Isle finished second and Grand Isle was fourth in the girls competition.

Course: 3-mile course that starts flat for 2 miles, with a hill around the 2.5 mile mark. The course is run on grass, finishing on the track at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
