Four Nola area QBs honored as Quarterbacks of the Week; fans can vote for favorite on Twitter

NEW ORLEANS – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week’s Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. Fans now have the opportunity to go to Twitter (@SugarBowlNola) to vote for their favorite performance of the week.

The Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. For the past decade, the Sugar Bowl and the Manning Award have recognized top collegiate quarterbacks on a weekly basis.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 10/26/20:

Keddrick Connelly, Warren Easton (8-of-15, 255 yards, 5 TDs)
Connelly, a sophomore, hooked up on three catch-and-run TDs of more than 55 yards while directing an offense that piled up eight touchdowns in a 59-14 win over Holy Cross. | WGNO-TV Friday Night Football Highlights

Andrew Naquin, Hahnville (17-of-28, 316 yards, 5 TDs)
After holding a slim 24-21 lead at halftime, Naquin and the Tigers exploded for 40 second-half points in a 64-35 Homecoming win over Thibodaux.

Arthur Oliver, East Jefferson (19-of-26, 315 yards, 7 TDs)
A junior, Oliver also rushed four times for 39 yards and an eighth score while sitting out the fourth quarter as the Warriors downed Grace King, 52-6. | WGNO-TV Friday Night Football Highlights

Kendell Sampson, St. Augustine (21-of-29, 215 yards, 1 TD)
Sampson also rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns as the senior helped the Purple Knights return from a 23-day COVID-related layoff with a 42-21 win over Jesuit.

De La Salle’s Cole Milford topped the week three voting after leading the Cavaliers to scores on their first seven possessions as they rolled to a 49-13 victory over Lakeshore to avenge last year’s three-TD loss to the Titans.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 96 Hall of Fame players, 50 Hall of Fame coaches and 18 Heisman Trophy winners in its 86-year history. The 86th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2021.
