Colonels’ Washington, Privateers’ Mitchell tabbed Southland Baseball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ Xane Washington and New Orleans’ Brandon Mitchell are the winners of the Southland Baseball Player of the Week awards for the 10th week of the 2023 season, which were announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Xane Washington, Nicholls – R-Sr. – OF – Houma, La. (Terrebonne HS)
Xane Washington set a new career-long with a 14-game hitting streak, batting .562 with nine hits which included two doubles and a homer to help the Colonels to a 4-0 week and their first series sweep of the season. Washington had at least two hits in all four games and finished with 10 runs scored and 7 RBIs. Seven hits came in the sweep of HCU where he had a 3-for-3 game with a homerun, four runs scored, and three RBIs. He also stole four bases for the week, had four walks, and finished with an impressive .682 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week: Brandon Mitchell, New Orleans – Sr. – LHP – Houston, Texas (Alief Elsik HS)
Mitchell threw his second consecutive complete game and his third overall this season as he limited McNeese to four hits in his start on Saturday. Mitchell struck out six batters as he collected his seventh win of the season., allowing two runs in 9.0 innings.
