Colonels blank Alcorn, 7-0, to start Mississippi softball road swing

LORMAN, Miss. – The Nicholls State University softball team started its five-game Mississippi road swing with a 7-0 victory at Alcorn State Thursday afternoon.

The win snapped a four-game skid for the Colonels, improving their record to 9-8 on the season. With the loss, Alcorn fell to 2-8.

Alexis LaBure headed the shutout for the pitching staff, striking out eight in 5.0 innings while allowing seven hits. Megan Landry tossed a perfect sixth and Emily Danehower picked up a strikeout in the seventh to close it out.

Nicholls had nine hits in the win, led by shortstop Amanda Gianelloni with two. After the Colonels scored twice in the third after an Alcorn error, Gianelloni doubled the lead with a 2-run home run to left field.

The Colonels added another unearned run in the third, then plated two more in the sixth. Kennedy Hebert doubled in one and the final came home on a Kasey Frederick groundout.
OLE MISS CLASSIC SCHEDULE CHANGE
