THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team was scheduled to begin its 2018 campaign this weekend in the Lion Classic hosted by Southeastern Louisiana, but the tournament has been canceled due to inclement weather.

Nicholls was slated to play in the tournament for the eighth consecutive year. The Colonels put together impressive showings in the last three classics in Hammond with a combined 12-3 record.

The last time the Colonels were unable to play opening weekend was in 2010. Nicholls was scheduled to play in the Centenary Tournament in Shreveport before north Louisiana was hit with five inches of snow.

The Colonels will now open their season next weekend in the Black and Gold Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama.
