Three qualifying events this weekend in Cypress Bayou Casino & Hotel Hole-in-One Shootout

BROUSSARD – Acadiana’s premier professional sports event, and one of the area’s largest individual charity fundraisers, kicks off activities this weekend when the Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by MISTRAS stages the first qualifying rounds of the Cypress Bayou Casino & Hotel Hole-in-One Shootout.

Hole-in-One competition begins Friday with the first qualifying round beginning at 7 a.m. at Les Vieux Chenes Golf Course. Qualifiers will also be held Saturday at The Farm d’Allie in Carencro and Sunday at The Wetlands.

The Hole-in-One Shootout continues the following weekend with qualifiers on Friday, March 13, at Oakbourne Country Club, and on Saturday, March 14, at the Louisiana Open’s Le Triomphe Golf Club home course during competition in the Korn Ferry Challenge. The finals of the Hole-in-One Shootout are scheduled for Sunday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Le Triomphe’s challenging 180-yard eighth hole where all qualifiers will have the chance to shoot for the $1 million prize.

The five qualifying events and the March 15 finals are the traditional opening events for the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, which returns to Acadiana and Le Triomphe for its 29th renewal Monday-Sunday, March 16-22. The $600,000 event, the largest purse in tournament history including a record $108,000 to the winner, brings premier-level professional golf to Acadiana as part of the Korn Ferry Tour. Championship play in the four-round event is Thursday-Sunday, March 19-22, over the 7,061-yard par-71 Le Triomphe layout.

The Hole-in-One Shootout benefits the Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana (ARF-LA, arfla.org) as part of the Louisiana Open’s charity program. In the first 28 years of the tournament’s existence, the Open has presented over $5 million to local and regional charities, the great majority of them youth programs.

At each qualifying event on the designated par-three hole at each course, players may have their tee shots measured for a $5 contribution to the Animal Rescue Foundation. The five closest shots to the hole each day qualify for the March 15 finals where approximately 50 players will have one shot at the $1 million payout. If no player makes the hole-in-one at the finals, the closest shot to the hole will win a $1,000 prize with prizes also going to the second and third place finishers.

Players may also claim a spot in the finals with a $100 contribution to ARF by calling the Chitimacha Louisiana Open office at (337) 593-8000.

No golfer has ever claimed the $1 million top prize, but last year’s winner Joe Myhand had one of the closest shots in
the event’s 28-year history when he hit his tee shot two feet and four inches from the pin at the eighth hole during the finals. A total of 43 players qualified to participate in last year’s finals either through qualification or through the $100 contribution.
