A key District 9-5A battle takes place Thursday night as Chalmette travels to Harvey to take on John Ehret.

Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Hoss Memtsas Stadium and you can listen to the game on WGSO 990 AM and at WGSO.com as Coach Lonn Ellzey joins me on the call with the pre-game show starting at 6:05.

The Patriots (3-1, 1-0) opened 8-5A play with a 33-14 victory over rival West Jefferson a week ago. Ehret lost its opener at unbeaten West Monroe before rebounding to post impressive wins over Hahnville and Destrehan before beating West Jeff.

The Owls (2-2, 1-0) opened district play with an easy 48-6 home victory over Grace King last Friday. Chalmette also defeated Bogalusa 50-20 while the Owls have lost to St. Charles Catholic and Holy Cross.

Chalmette has posted three consecutive 7-4 seasons and playoff appearances while Ehret made the playoffs a year ago, reaching the regional round before bowing to eventual state champion Zachary. The Patriots made the quarterfinals in 2016 and reached the state championship game in Class 5A in 2015.

Senior Brennan Hoorman has rushed for 286 yards on 33 carries with seven touchdowns to lead the Chalmette offense. Junior quarterback Joshua Taylor has rushed for 139 yards and four touchdowns and has completed 18-of-36 passes for 190 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.

Senior quarterback Travis Mumphrey leads the Ehret offense. Mumphrey has completed 62-of-104 passes for 866 yards and 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. Mumphrey has rushed for 106 yards and two scores. Junior Damond Leonard has rushed for 306 yards and two touchdowns and senior Jordan Pickney has 21 catches for 361 yards and six touchdowns.

John Ehret has won the last five meetings, including a thrilling 41-39 shootout at Bobby Nuss Stadium a year ago.
