Week five was a good week for “chalk” in Louisiana with top teams winning, outside of St. Thomas More and St. Charles Catholic, both of whom lost very tough games to higher classification teams.

In Class 5A, there are no changes as John Curtis Christian remains the top-ranked team with Catholic of Baton Rouge a very close second and Archbishop Rummel a close third. All three teams have been lights out and are clearly three of the top five teams in any classification in Louisiana. West Monroe is a solid fourth with Acadiana fifth. Brother Martin continues to impress and is sixth ahead of a showdown against Rummel which you can watch live at Saturday afternoon.

Unbeaten Haughton is seventh with Destrehan eighth, Alexandria ninth and Hahnville and East Ascension still tied for tenth but keep an eye on Scotlandville, unbeaten and off of a very impressive victory over Southern Lab.

In Class 4A, St. Thomas More remains on top despite a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to Catholic of Baton Rouge in the game of the year, to this point. Unbeaten Lakeshore is second off of a very impressive win over De La Salle with Karr third. Unbeaten Eunice is fourth with Neville fifth. Leesville is unbeaten and is now sixth with Bastrop falling to seventh. Warren Easton is eighth with unbeaten Tioga ninth and Teurlings Catholic moving in a No. 10.

In Class 3A, four unbeatens occupy the top four spots but St. James has been most impressive and is still No. 1. The Wildcats whipped previously unbeaten Assumption. Sterlington is second with Iota third, Loranger fourth and Madison Prep at No. 5. University High is sixth with Union Parish seventh and Bossier now eighth. Wossman and De La Salle complete the top 10.

In Class 2A, Notre Dame continues as the best team with Newman moving up to second and Lafayette Christian moving up to third. St. Charles Catholic falls to fourth with Ferriday fifth. Amite is sixth with Dunham seventh and Catholic of New Iberia eighth. Many is ninth and Avoyelles is No. 10.

In Class 1A, Ascension Catholic is No. 1 with Calvary Baptist second. Opelousas Catholic is third with Ouachita Christian fourth. Vermilion Catholic is fifth with Oberlin sixth and Oak Grove now seventh. West St. John, East Iberville and Southern Lab round out the top 10 teams.
