Catholic, Scotlandville, Zachary, Westgate, Huntington claim titles as Horne, Cargo and Reichard shine

It was a long day and night.

At the end of the long day, the championships were completed.

The Class 5A and 4A LHSAA Track and Field championships concluded at Bernie Moore Stadium and Carl Maddox Field House Saturday.

At the end of the long day, Catholic of Baton Rouge, Scotlandville, Westgate and Huntington claimed state titles.

Area schools faring well included Karr, who finished second in 5A and John Curtis Christian, third in the boys 5A competition.

Catholic won the boys 5A title with 68 points. Karr was second with 57 and John Curtis Christian third with 51 points. Jesuit came in firth with 40 points.

Holy Cross took first in the 4×200 relay while Karr won the 4×100 relay.

Among local champions, Justin Horne of John Curtis Christian capped his brilliant season, winning both the 110 and 200-meter hurdles, Armani Cargo of John Ehret was tremendous as well, winning both the 100 and 200-meter dash, Michael Vocke of Jesuit won the 1,600 meter run, Patrick Dowd of the Blue Jays took first in the 3,200 run and Seth Martinez of Fontainebleau captured the pole vault title.

In the 5A girls competition, Scotlandville and Zachary shared the team title with 70 points. Barbe was second with 58 points and St. Joseph’s Academy finished third with 54 points.

Catalina Reichard of Mount Carmel Academy was the star, taking both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs while Marley Richardson of Destrehan won the long jump and Kerrington Baham of Covington won the triple jump.

In the boys 4A competition, Westgate was victorious with 68 points with Tioga second with 59 points. Vandebilt Catholic was third with 55 points. Helen Cox finished fifth.

Drake Breland of Belle Chasse was victorious in the 3,200 meter run while Archbishop Shaw won the 4×100 relay.

In the girls 4A competition, Huntington was first with 87 points with West Feliciana second with 52 points. Northside finished third with 49 points.

The Willow School won the 4×800 relay.
