Catholic League rivalries air this weekend on CST, Crescent City Sports, WGSO
Week 5 of the high school football schedule in Louisiana means it’s rivalry weekend in the Catholic League, and broadcasts of all three matchups will be available Friday and Saturday.
The action begins Friday night at Tad Gormley Stadium with the 99th meeting between Holy Cross and Jesuit, with kickoff scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The game is not only part of the Crescent City Sports Rivalry Series on Cox Sports Television, but part of the nationwide Great American Rivalry Series. The CST broadcast and a live stream on CrescentCitySports.com will begin at 7 p.m.
The Tigers (4-0) and Blue Jays (3-1) have met every year since 1922, making it the fifth-oldest continuously played rivalry in the country. Jesuit leads the all-time series 56-40-1, with one game ruled “no contest.”
Both teams opened district play with victories last week, meaning Friday night’s winner will be the first team in the league to 2-0.

On Saturday, the battle for the Megaphone between Archbishop Rummel (3-1) and Archbishop Shaw (1-3) will be carried by WGSO 990 AM. Kickoff is at 2 p.m., with the broadcast – also available on wgso.com – beginning at 1:45.
Rummel is the last team to open District 9-5A play, after a bye on the opening week of the league schedule. The Raiders are making their first-ever trip to Shaw’s new on-campus stadium, which was dedicated earlier this month.
Saturday night at 7, the neighborhood rivalry between St. Augustine (3-1) and Brother Martin (2-2) renews at Gormley. Crescent City Sports and WGSO will both carry the game beginning at 6:45 p.m.
This series has traditionally produced some dramatic games, and both teams are looking for their first district win of 2018.
Crescent City Sports will feature live streaming of no fewer than 30 high school sporting events throughout the 2018-19 school year. Additionally, in cooperation with Cox Sports Television, CCS will also produce up to 10 more events that will both be televised on CST and streamed on the site.
