NEW ORLEANS – Carver seemed to have no answer for the stingy defense of the Landry Buccaneers in the first half Friday night.

In fact, the Rams had to overcome a pair of turnovers that led directly to points to rally for a 15-13 win at Behrman Stadium.

Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively with penalties and turnovers popping up at inopportune times. The teams combined for a total of 18 penalties before halftime.

Fittingly, the Charging Bucs scored first off of a Carver turnover. Landry senior cornerback Vernon Watkins intercepted Rams quarterback Christian Cojoe and returned it for a 60-yard touchdown.

Cojoe threw his second interception of the night to Bucs cornerback Javier White, who also ran it back to paydirt for a 13-0 Landry lead.

Carver’s defense came up with a huge turnover to help turn the tide. Linebacker Marquis Tabb forced a fumble on the Landry two-yard line that was recovered for a touchdown to close the gap to 13-7.

The tale of penalties and miscues by both offenses continued in the second half but Landry moved the ball, controlling the clock. Penalties and a fumble snap on special teams by the Bucs gave Carver a second chance.

A nine-yard touchdown pass to Tyron Johns from quarterback Anochee Davis followed by Eric Horn’s two-point conversion gave the Rams their first lead of the night with 5:03 remaining in the fourth quarter in what ended up as the winning margin.

On Landry’s final drive, Edrin Johnson’s fourth sack of the night sealed the victory for Carver.
