Capps, Filmore lead Lions past HBU, 85-69

HAMMOND, La. – Senior forward Jordan Capps poured in a career-high 31 points to lead Southeastern Louisiana to a 85-69 Southland Conference victory over Houston Baptist Wednesday night in the University Center.

Capps was 12-of-18 from the field and 6-of-9 from the line in becoming the first Lion to score 30 points since Cedric Jenkins had 37 at New Orleans on March 5, 2015.

Senior guard Joshua Filmore tied a career-high seven 3-pointers in adding 22 points for Southeastern (11-8, 5-1 Southland). Junior guard Marlain Veal contributed 10 assists, five steals and eight rebounds while senior forward James Currington had eight rebounds and nine points. The Lions shot 53.4 percent from the field and out-rebounded HBU, 37-32.

Ian DuBose led HBU (4-15, 0-6 Southland) with 17 points. Jalon Gates and Braxton Bonds with 13 points each and David Caraher with 10 were also in double figures for the Huskies who shot 40.3 percent from the field.

Southeastern wraps up its current three-game home stand versus Northwestern State Saturday at 5 p.m.
