Cakes shut out in Memphis, 4-0

MEMPHIS – Patrick Wisdom drilled a solo home run in the second inning and the Memphis Redbirds added three runs in the third inning to defeat the New Orleans Baby Cakes, 4-0, at AutoZone Park on Saturday night.

John Gant worked six innings, allowed six hits and earned his sixth win of the season. Memphis used two relievers to finish off the shutout.

The Redbirds pitched their fourth shutout of the season and New Orleans was shut out for the 10th time this season.

The ‘Cakes were led by Steve Lombardozzi and Eury Perez, who each notched two hits but the offense stranded nine and grounded into two inning-ending double plays.

New Orleans (50-74) has dropped 10 of 14 meetings this season to the division champion Memphis Redbirds (83-44).

GAME NOTES: The ‘Cakes have been shut out the second most times of any team in the PCL this season. New Orleans has been involved in 21 shutouts, also second most.

UPCOMING- The ‘Cakes continue the four game series at Memphis on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. New Orleans will start RHP William Cuevas against RHP Dakota Hudson (0-0, 4.56).
