Good Afternoon Cajun Nation,

This morning I met with Coach Mark Hudspeth to discuss the future of our Football program, and I informed him of my decision to move the program in a different direction, relieving him of his head coaching duties. Transitions like this are never easy for anyone involved, and I am extremely grateful for the commitment and service Coach Hudspeth, Tyla and their children have given this community in addition to the improvements made within our Football program over the past seven years. I know Coach Hudspeth will be successful as he moves forward in his career and I know Ragin’ Cajuns fans join me in thanking Coach Hudspeth and his family for all they have done for the city of Lafayette, the University of Louisiana, our Athletics Department, and the Football program.

Additionally, this morning, I met with our Football coaching staff and student-athletes, as well as various support personnel, informing them of my decision and discussing our process moving forward. During this time of transition, Coach Michael Desormeaux will serve as the acting director of our Football program as we continue to focus on the academic success of our student-athletes and our recruiting efforts.

Our attention will now be given to a thorough search process that will allow us to identify the next Head Coach of Ragin’ Cajuns Football. We will be committed to finding a coach who exemplifies the values of the University of Louisiana and the Department of Athletics, an individual who prioritizes the academic success of our student-athletes, builds positive relationships with those he coaches, is a relentless recruiter, places a strong focus on player development, and is a proven winner.

To protect the integrity of our process, I will have no further public comments until such time we announce our new coach. Understanding there will be great interest and speculation associated with this search, as I shared with our student-athletes and staff earlier today, unless you hear information directly from me, please do not assume it to be accurate.

I greatly appreciate the passion and commitment of Cajun Nation. On behalf of our entire Athletics Department, I want to thank you for your continued support of our great University and student-athletes!
