Browns sign Rico Gathers, Vikings pick up ex-Saints tackle Nate Wozniak
The Cleveland Browns added a former Mr. Louisiana Basketball to their roster with the signing of tight end Rico Gathers who was released by the Dallas Cowboys last week.
To make room, the Browns released veteran Orson Charles.
Gathers, a native of Reserve, La. who prepped at Riverside Academy, was named the state’s best boys basketball player in 2011. At Baylor, he was the first player in school history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during his career.
Used mostly as a blocker in the NFL, the 6-foot-6 Gathers was a sixth round pick by Dallas in 2016.
Meanwhile, former Saints offensive tackle Nate Wozniak (6-10, 300) is back where he played college ball. Released by New Orleans on August 7th, the ex-University of Minnesota tight end has been picked up by the Vikings after the release of tackle Tyler Catalina.
Wozniak had been trying to land a spot on the active roster in New Orleans after arriving as an undrafted free agent last season. He spent 2018 on the Saints practice squad.
