Rummel-Brother Martin 2016

The District 9-5A contest between Brother Martin and Archbishop Rummel at Tad Gormley Stadium will be carried live on WGSO 990 AM and on the web at WGSO.com

The pre-game show from Tad Gormley Stadium begins at 6:45 p.m. with WGSO Sports Director Ken Trahan on the call, along with Leni Sumich (Brother Martin Class of 1990) and sideline reporter Jordan Liuzza.

The Crusaders are coming off of a 7-3 district loss to Holy Cross. Brother Martin (4-3, 1-2) lost starting quarterback Drew Martin for the season with a broken leg so head coach Mark Bonis will turn to sophomore Isaiah Torregano behind center.

Junior running back Chris Smith leads the Crusaders with 125 carries for 431 yards and four touchdowns while senior Brady Faust is the top receiver with 30 receptions for 452 yards and three touchdowns.

The Raiders are coming off of a 20-7 Catholic League victory over Jesuit. Entering the week tied with John Curtis atop 9-5A, Rummel (6-1, 3-0) will have to cope with the loss of sophomore running back Logan Diggs due to a torn biceps.

Senior quarterback Chandler Fields, a UL-Lafayette commit, has rushed 73 times for 364 yards and five touchdowns while also tossing 55-of-96 passes for 807 yards and five scores for the Raiders.

Junior running back Jalen Sturgis has 127 carries for 781 yards and nine touchdowns while junior USC commit Koy Moore is the top Rummel receiver with 21 catches for 338 yards and a touchdown.

Brother Martin has rallied to edge Rummel the past two seasons. The Raiders had won five straight in the series before the current Crusaders win streak.
