Brother Martin dominates in winning prestigious Big 12 Cinco Ranch Tournament

It was another highly successful weekend for the Brother Martin wrestling team.

The Crusaders won the Big 12 Cinco Ranch Tournament at Katy, TX by the wide margin of 115 points.

Logan Bertot of Brother Martin was chosen as the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the event. In a significant reversal, in wrestling terms, Bertot came back on Saturday to defeat Brandon Diaz of Katy High 5-2 in the quarterfinals after losing to Diaz by fall in the dual meet between the two schools Friday night. Bertot then defeated Richie Azbill of Katy Cinco Ranch High 6-1 for the title.

In all, five Crusaders won individual titles, including Eric Davenport (106), Connor Hoffman (120), Bertot (126), Daniel Croy (132) and Patrick Evans (145). Brother Martin had second place finishers in Ethan Castex (113), Seth Alfonso (152) and Colby Franowich (170). Cameron Frederick (195) finished third in his class.

In dual meet action prior to the team competition, Brother Martin defeated Katy High (TX) 38-26 and defeated Klein Cain (TX) 78-6.

Brother Martin returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27, hosting a three-way dual with St. Amant and East Ascension at Conlin Gymnasium.
