Gary Sandrock, Brother Martin cross country

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans distance program added one of the best distance runners in the state as the Privateers announced the addition of Gary Sandrock out of Brother Martin High School. The signing was made official by distance coach Brock Moreaux on Tuesday.

“I am always excited to get the opportunity to work with some of Louisiana’s talent and even more so with talent right here in our great city of New Orleans,” Moreaux said. “Gary comes from a high school with excellent cross country tradition and he was the leader of that group throughout his senior year. He will fit right in with the team as an underclassman and become a big part of leading our group as he develops.”

Sandrock, a New Orleans native, was honored as a member of the 2020-2021 LHSAA All-State Team after a standout season in both track and cross with the Crusaders.

On the track, Sandrock was a 2021 state finalist in the 1600 and 3200 and he helped his team to the title at the track & field district championships. He went on to finish fourth in the 3200 at the state championship meet.

Sandrock also had great success on the course as he finished seventh overall at the 2020 Louisiana Cross Country Championships with a time of 15:50.2 for three miles. With the performance, he led the Crusaders to a third-place finish at the state meet and was named to NOLA.com’s 2020 All-Metro Cross Country team. It was the second straight season that the New Orleans native was selected as an All-Metro honoree.
