Defending state champion Brother Martin and Central Lafourche set the stage for a semifinal battle of unbeatens by each winning three matches Tuesday at Acadiana Lanes in Lafayette.

The No. 2 seed Crusaders (15-0) lost just one point in victories over Berwick and Benton before defeating No. 7 seed H.L. Bourgeois 22-5 in the quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Trojans (15-0) had identical 20-7 victories over Vandebilt Catholic and Denham Springs in their first two matches, then defeated No. 27 seed Acadiana 21-6 in the quarterfinals.

Brother Martin’s best performance came in the second round victory over Benton. The Crusaders opened with team games of 1,337 and 1,352 and finished with a season-best 3,916 series.

Will Oertling and Brandon Bonvillain led Brother Martin against Benton, each rolling 700 series. Oertling fired a 713 on games of 216-264-233, while Bonvillain had a 704 set on games of 238-231-235.

Cody Schaffer led the Crusaders against H.L. Bourgeois with a 672 series.

Central Lafourche’s Andrew Levron saved his best for the final match of the day with a 715 series, including a 276 final game. Levron fired a 687 in the second-round win.

Acadiana produced the day’s biggest surprise, knocking off No. 6 seed Jesuit 14-13 in the opening match.

The final score suggested exactly how tight the match was, as neither team won any of the three games by more than 29 pins. In an unusual circumstance, the Blue Jays finished with more total pins than the Wreckin’ Rams, but Acadiana won 10 of 18 individual matches and two of three team games.

With the boys semifinals set, the focus switches to the girls division, which will bowl its first two rounds Thursday at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge. Unbeaten Archbishop Chapelle is the top seed in the girls bracket.

The semifinals and finals in both the boys and girls bracket are April 4 in Baton Rouge.
