The Select Division I state semifinal prep football game featuring No. 13 seed Brother Martin at No. 8 Carencro will air Friday night at 7 p.m. as part of Ken Trahan’s Original Prep Football Report.

The broadcast can be heard on NASH ICON 106.1 FM and WSLA in Slidell as well as at NASHFM1061.com.

Coverage begins at 6 p.m. with Countdown to The Original hosted by Ro Brown, Les East and Jude Young with previews of all 16 state semifinal games before the Brother Martin-Carencro pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m.

Ken Trahan, Cumulus New Orleans Sports Director and Crescent City Sports co-owner, will have the call of the game while former Crusader players Chad Larose (Class of 1990) and Leni Sumich (Class of 1990) will provide analysis. Eric Held (Class of 1989) will handle field reports.

Brother Martin (8-5) has ripped off three straight wins in the playoffs, including a 28-14 win over No. 5 Northwood a week ago.

Texas State commit Torey Lambert has carried the Brother Martin offense in the playoffs, rushing 114 times for 671 yards and seven touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass.

Carencro (10-2) is led by senior quarterback Chantz Ceaser, who has rushed for 174 rushes for 1,262 yards and 17 touchdowns and he has completed 78 of 149 passes for 1,507 yards and 24 touchdowns and 24 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

Carencro knocked off top seed Warren Easton 29-26 at Pan American Stadium a week ago.

“We have had a great week of practice, a great week of preparation and we’re excited about this opportunity,” Brother Martin coach Mark Bonis said. “We talk about playing our best football at the end every year. Our coaches always had confidence in this team. You always want to be peaking at the end of the season. That’s the goal. It’s worked out well for us this year.”

A year ago, Brother Martin won 35-6 at Carencro in the regular season in a game that saw Chantz leave injured at the beginning of the second quarter.

“Obviously, there is a lot more at stake Friday night,” Bonis said. “Its going to be a great atmosphere. They’re a very talented football team, very well coached. The quarterback is an outstanding player. For him to suffer a catastrophic injury like he suffered last year, to come back and doing what he’s doing and even playing both ways speaks to his toughness and the program’s toughness. We’ve got our hands full.”

What would it mean for Brother Martin to only get over the hump and return to a state title game for the first time since 1989?

“It would be a dream come true but a lot of things go into this,” Bonis said. “Not just in a season but in a career’s time, for your coaches and for your players. It would be an unbelievable experience. We’re just looking to go play our best football. We were very tight going in the last couple of times in the semifinals. We’ve got to go in there confident and loose.”

The game will be part of Ken Trahan’s Original Prep Football Report on NASH ICON 106.1 FM, WSLA, 93.9 FM and 1560 AM and other network stations.

There will be reports from all 15 other semifinals games as part of the broadcast, along with frequent scoreboard updates from CrescentCitySports.com.

At game’s end, Brown, East and Young take over with the remainder of The Original on 106.1 FM and all other Original Network stations around Louisiana.
