Breakers lose for first time, falling to Stallions

Dreams of an unbeaten season ended Saturday night for the New Orleans Breakers.

The Birmingham Stallions downed New Orleans 22-13 at Protective Field in Birmingham in a battle of unbeaten USFL teams.

The Stallions (3-0) rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the fourth quarter, outscoring New Orleans 12-0 in the final stanza to get the win.

Johnnie Dixon III was the star for New Orleans with seven catches for 86 yards and a pair of 10-yard touchdown receptions.

Kyle Sloter completed 26 of 47 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and he lost a fumble. Under constant pressure, Sloter was sacked four times, including once in his own end zone, resulting in a fumble and a safety.

Tight end Sal Canella had six catches for 64 yards.

Jordan Ellis led the rushing attack with 20 carries for 95 yards.

The Breakers were held to 305 yards of total offense.

Aashari Croswell had a brilliant one-handed interception while linebacker Jerod Fernandez led the team with 12 tackles. Defensive end Shareef Miller had the only sack for the Breakers (2-1).

New Orleans returns to action next Sunday, May 8 at 3 p.m. against the Houston Gamblers with the game set to be televised by Fox Network. All games are played in Birmingham.
