James Bewers of the Lafayette Advertiser first reported LaGrange and Lafayette High were facing possible forfeits of their week nine football games this week due to a benches-clearing incident between the teams this past Friday night.

The LHSAA decided that was the case Tuesday. LaGrange was scheduled to play Friday at Acadiana while Lafayette was slated to visit Sam Houston. With the decision, Acadiana and Sam Houston have been awarded victories since the LHSAA indicates all but four players between the two teams stayed on the sidelines when the benches-clearing incident occurred.

Bewers had previously reported that the late turmoil in the 24-7 LaGrange victory resulted in a brawl:

A heated contest between Lafayette High and LaGrange, which had seen the ejections of one Gators player and Mighty Lions coach Rob Pool earlier in the game, ended with a brawl with fewer than 30 seconds remaining in the game.

Officials wrote down the numbers of players involved in the brawl, a spectator said, which could lead to suspensions by the LHSAA. The LHSAA and the Lake Charles Officials Association could not be immediately reached for comment.

Earlier this year, the LHSAA ruled that Helen Cox and Higgins had to forfeit their week one games after the two teams had a benches clearing brawl in a Jamboree game.
