FRISCO, Texas – Brandon Mitchell won Southland Pitcher of the Week honors after a strong performance that led the New Orleans Privateers to a win on Saturday at Lamar.

Mitchell threw his second complete game of his career in Beaumont as the Privateers defeated the Cardinals 5-2. The senior southpaw gave up both runs in the first inning and was masterful from that point on as he allowed just three hits for the rest of the game.

The Houston native struck out three batters and induced ten ground ball outs on the game. He had a stretch from the sixth through the eighth inning where he retired nine of ten batters.

Mitchell won the 15th game of his career and the fourth of the season, which leads the pitching staff heading into the week.

After the weekend, Mitchell ranks in the top ten in the Southland in both hits allowed per nine innings and walks-hits-innings pitched (WHIP).

The complete game was the first of the nine-inning variety the Privateers have recorded this season. Collin Horton had a seven-inning complete game against Mississippi Valley State.

Mitchell also earned his third Southland Pitcher of the Week award in his career. He last won it in early April 2022 when he threw a complete game against McNeese.
