Boys prep basketball playoffs underway with loaded Friday schedule in store

The LHSAA boys prep basketball state playoffs got underway Thursday evening and there are a host of first-round games this evening.

In Class C, it was 16th-seed Grand Isle advancing with a 50-45-win over 17th-seeded Evans. The Trojans (9-16) advance to play at top-seed Summerfield in the regional round.

Also in Class C, 12th-seed Atlanta downed 21st-seed Reeves 81-58. The Bulldogs (11-21) advance to take on fifth-seed Pleasant Hill on the road in the regional round.

On the bayou, ninth-seed Central Catholic crushed 24th-seed Highland Baptist 76-31 in Division IV. The Eagles (16-15) dominated from start to finish, leading 27-6 after one quarter and 42-12 by halftime. It was 60-22 after three quarters.

Central Catholic advances to take on eighth-seed Covenant Christian at Houma in the regional round. The Lions easily dismissed 25th-seed Ecole Classique 64-31. Justin Jackson had 12 points, Dakarai Johnson had 11 points and Tre’veon Sauceberry added nine points for the Lions (19-10).

In top games involving area teams tonight locally, 30th-seed West Jefferson travels to District 8-5A rival, third-seed and defending state champion Landry-Walker at 7 p.m. while 22nd-seed East St. John treks to 11th-seed Slidell in 5A action.

In 4A, eighth-seed Karr hosts 25th-seeded Franklin Parish at 7 p.m. while 12th-seed Salmen entertains 21st-seeded Cecilia at 7 p.m. Warren Easton, the 13th-seed, welcomes 20th-seeded Neville at 6 p.m.

In 3A, third-seed Sophie B. Wright plays host to 30th-seed Iota at 6 p.m.

In Division II, 15th-seed Ben Franklin is at home against 18th-seeded Parkview Baptist at 7 p.m.

In Division IV, 11th-seeded St. Martin’s Episcopal plays host to 22nd-seed St. Edmund at 6 p.m.
