Pope John Paul II won seven of eight points in the second game to take control Wednesday in a 17-10 victory over De La Salle at Bowling USA in Slidell.

Jonathan Lala’s 182 in the No. 4 spot paced the middle-game effort for the Jaguars (2-3), who stretched a 5-3 lead after one game to 12-4 after two.

Jack Kingman had a 529 series, including a 200 final game, to lead Pope John Paul.

Brandt Haynes paced the Cavaliers (1-5) with a 581 series, including games of 210 and 205.

Two Perfect Games Wednesday: There were two 300 games in Louisiana high school bowling in the entire 2022 season. That total got matched on a limited Wednesday schedule around the state.

At All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge, Dutchtown junior Preston West – who has more than a dozen perfect games in his young career – rolled his first career 300 in varsity action in the Griffins’ victory over Madison Prep. West set a state record last year by averaging 238 for the prep season.

At Four Seasons Bowling Center in Alexandria, Holy Savior Menard junior Ryan Hicks also reached perfection in a victory over Alexandria Senior High.

According to records from the U.S. High School Bowling Foundation, West and Hicks rolled the 19th and 20th perfect games in Louisiana high school bowling competition.
