Boys Bowling: Shaw rolls season-best series in defeating Rummel; Jesuit also stays perfect

In a matchup of unbeaten boys bowling teams, Archbishop Shaw was dominant in a 24-3 victory over Archbishop Rummel Thursday at Westside Lanes in Harvey.

How dominant? The Eagles fired a school-record 3,716 team series, the highest in the state this season, and had 11 games above 200. Four of the six bowlers in the lineup finished with series above 650.

Andrew Hill led Shaw (4-0) with a 689 series on games of 239-220-230. Joshua Collins had a 672 set that included a 246 opening game, anchor Riley Elwood a 655 and Jonathan Arena a 651.

Blake Caire had an opening-game 202 as part of a 536 series and claimed two points for the Raiders (3-1).

Jesuit 25, Pope John Paul II 2: The Blue Jays got five 200 games from the right side of their lineup to stay unbeaten with a victory over the Jaguars at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.

William Carpenter’s 215 and William Adams’ 201 pushed Jesuit (5-0) to a 7-1 lead in the opening game, and Preston Roark’s 211 helped the Jays clinch the match after two games. In the final game, Joseph Anderson had a 216 and Ethan Benoit a 207.

Jack Kingman had a 458 series and delivered one of the two points for Pope John Paul (1-3).

Brother Martin 26, De La Salle 1: The Crusaders had a season-high 1,276 middle game in a victory over the Cavaliers at Colonial Lanes in Harahan.

Jacob Vangilder’s 278, Ashton Catalinotto’s 247 and Kade Chatelain’s 211 paced the second-game effort for Brother Martin (3-1), which used all nine bowlers on its roster for two games apiece.

Amelia Haynes’ final-game 187 delivered the lone point for De La Salle (1-4).

Kenner Discovery 23, Hahnville 4: The Swamp Owls used their entire 10-man lineup in a victory over the Tigers at AMF.

Kaare Smith averaged 160 for two games to lead Kenner Discovery (4-1).

Bryce Goodson’s opening-game 154 produced a point for Hahnville (0-5).

Holy Cross 23, St. Augustine 4: The Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak with a victory over the Purple Knights at AMF.

Ethan Boyd’s 450 series led Holy Cross (3-2). Will Sam paced St. Augustine (0-4) with a 445 set.

John Ehret 24½, St. Therese 2: The Patriots started fast and rolled to a victory over the Phoenix at Westside.

Ehret (3-2) won all eight points in the opening game thanks in part to Alexander Kim’s 223 and Matthew Nguyen’s 212. Nguyen also had a 241 middle game as part of a 630 series.

Logan LeJeune led St. Therese (1-3) with a 494 series.
