Boys Bowling: Rummel uses big second game to take down Bonnabel; Jesuit, Shaw go to 8-1

Archbishop Rummel swept all six individual matches in the second game en route to a 17-10 victory over Bonnabel in boys/co-ed bowling action Monday at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.

The Raiders (7-2) had a slim 5-3 lead after the first game. Behind Ben Mayer’s 209 and Josh Bares’ 200, they took an eight-point sweep in the second game to move within one point of clinching the match.

Still, Bonnabel (6-3) nearly pulled off a huge comeback, taking seven of the eight points in the final game and closing the total pins margin to 15.

Matthew Fletcher led Rummel with a 545 series, followed by Mayer’s 534 and Ruben Gendron’s 512. Alahna DeGruy led the Bruins’ co-ed team with a 588 series, including a 203 opening game. Miguel Coelho closed with a 233 for a 557 set.

Jesuit 26, Kenner Discovery 1: Ben Hunn’s 645 series led the Blue Jays past the Swamp Owls at AMF.

Hunn had games of 221 and 227 and Gary Sims had a team-best 256 middle game to pace Jesuit (8-1), which fired a 3,269 team series.

Laronze Jacobs’ 152 opening game produced the only point for Kenner Discovery (2-7).

Archbishop Shaw 25½, St. Augustine 1½: The Eagles got a 229 opening game from Joseph Jimenez and never looked back in defeating the Purple Knights at AMF.

Jimenez averaged 209 for two games and Ryan Artus had a 543 series for Shaw (8-1).

Kejuan Henry’s 456 series, which included a 196 opening game, led St. Augustine (2-7).

East Jefferson 23, Crescent City Christian 4: Also at AMF, Adam Atkins fired a 647 series, including a 251 final game, to lead the Warriors over the Pioneers.

East Jefferson (4-5) also had a 471 series from Caleb Goetz and a 169 middle game from Karla Martinez.

Crescent City (2-7) got games of 169 and 168 from Sebastian Decote.

Holy Cross 22½, St. Therese 4½: At Westside Lanes, the Tigers got a 620 series from Adam Popich in defeating the Phoenix.

Popich had games of 196-217-207 to lead Holy Cross (6-3). Logan LeJeune had a 174 middle game and 439 series, scoring 2½ points for St. Therese (3-6).

Patrick Taylor 24, Chalmette 3: Also at Westside, the Tigers defeated the Owls.

Preston Jones had a 211 final game to lead Patrick Taylor (5-4), which used all 10 bowlers on its roster. Tristen Lambert produced a pair of points and had a 213 game for Chalmette (0-8).
