Boys Bowling: Brother Martin blanks St. Augustine in opener
Two-time defending state champion Brother Martin extended its winning streak to 35 matches with a 27-0 shutout of St. Augustine in the season opener for both teams Monday at Colonial Lanes in Harahan.
The Crusaders rolled a 3,247 team series, with all 10 players on Monday’s roster seeing action.
Junior Drew Gardner, who has moved into the anchor position, had a 596 series, including a 220 final game. Andre Hoyuela had 10 strikes in a 232 opening game, while senior Brennan Brouillette closed with a 227.
Johnny Kelly led the Purple Knights with a 198 game and a 443 series.
Archbishop Shaw 26, East Jefferson 1: The Eagles opened with a victory over the Warriors at Westside Lanes.
Shaw used nine bowlers for two games each. Zi Hui had a 200 final game, while Joseph Jimenez turned in games of 187 and 188.
Reigning state match-game champion Adam Atkins led East Jefferson with a 530 series.
St. Paul’s 23, Archbishop Hannan 4: Despite being short-handed, the Wolves rolled to a season-opening victory over the Hawks at Tangi Lanes in Hammond.
Jack Bertucci led St. Paul’s with a 625 series, including a 237 opening game.
Chris Reso had a 204 game and 451 series for Hannan.
