Boys Basketball: Warren Easton edges Carver in thriller

Area Boys Prep Basketball Report for Thursday, Jan. 17

Trailing by 13 points entering the fourth quarter, it appeared that red hot Carver was about go see its 16-game win streak end Wednesday night at Warren Easton.

Then, the Rams staged a furious comeback, pulling within two points and had three shots to tie it in the final seconds but could not as the Eagles prevailed 52-50.

Warren Easton jumped all over Carver early to take a 14-4 lead after one quarter and led 28-19 at halftime. It was 44-31 going to the final quarter before the Rams staged their rally.

Fred Shields led Warren Easton (15-8) with 15 points while Justin Williams added 13 points and Troy Joseph finished with nine for the Eagles. Michael Pajaud topped Carver (20-4) with 20 points and Ray Walker contributed 10 points for the Rams.

Carver was seventh while Warren Easton was 23rd in the most recent LHSAA power rankings.

Winners of three straight games, Warren Easton returns to district 9-4A action Friday night, hosting McMain at 7:30 pm while Carver entertains tough Bonnabel Friday at 5:30 in an intriguing non-district contest.
