Boys Basketball Playoffs: KIPP-BTW continues magical run at title

The resurgence of the great basketball program that was once Booker T. Washington continues in Lake Charles this afternoon.

No. 8 seed KIPP-Booker T. Washington looks to pull another upset when the Lions battle Delhi at 1:15 p.m. in the Class 1A semifinals at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.

KIPP-B.T. Washington advanced by knocking off No. 25 Kentwood 88-61 before fighting past No. 9 Grand Lake 50-45.

The Lions then shocked the state by knocking off top seed White Castle 68-62 on the road.

Kenny Allen’s District 8-1A champion (23-14) were led by Tyrese Johnson, who scored 23 points in the win over White Castle. Kyran Ratliff scored 18 points while Shapaca Smith had 12 points. Mike Johnson is another star for the Lions.

The Bears (29-7) advanced by edging No. 5 Lincoln Prep 60-59 in the quarterfinals after knocking off No. 20 Gueydan 49-26 and No. 13 Elton 80-43.
