Boys Basketball Playoffs: Area schools look to punch tickets to Lake Charles on Friday

A total of 15 New Orleans area schools seek to punch their tickets to the Final Four in Lake Charles on Friday evening.

In Class 5A, the highlight is a rematch of last year’s epic state championship game as No. 6 Landry-Walker (20-9) travels to No. 3 Walker (27-8)

The Wildcats defeated the Chargin’ Bucs 62-57 in overtime in the title game in 2018. Earlier this season, Landry-Walker won 72-67 at Walker on Dec. 1.

In another matchup of area teams, No. 5 Ponchatoula (27-6) travels to Kenner to battle No. 4 Bonnabel (25-5).

In Class 3A, top-seeded Sophie B. Wright (32-3) entertains No. 9 Washington-Marion (19-11) at 7 p.m. while No. 26 St. James (14-19) looks to continue its Cinderella run at No. 2 Peabody (31-4).

In Class 2A, No. 19 Amite (14-13) plays at No. 6 Lake Arthur (28-5) at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 1A, No. 9 KIPP-B.T. Washington (19-13) travels to top seed White Castle (25-6) at 7 p.m.

In Division I, No. 8 John Curtis Christian (13-16) faces a tough contest at defending state champion and No. 1 Scotlandville (32-2) at 7 p.m.

No. 10 Archbishop Shaw (14-19) faces No. 2 St. Augustine (31-4) for the third time. The Purple Knights won both regular season matchups easily by scores of 89-41 and 66-38.

No. 4 Jesuit (28-6) plays host to No. 5 Catholic of Baton Rouge (27-5) at 7 p.m. The Blue Jays edged the Bears 68-63 at home on Dec. 22.

No. 6 Brother Martin (18-16) travels to No. 3 Holy Cross (23-6) at 7 p.m. You can watch the game live at CrescentCitySports.com with Ken Berthelot and Bill Gallagher. The Tigers won both regular season meetings, taking a 59-49 win at home and a 56-54 win at Brother Martin. The Crusaders have won four straight games.

In Division II, No. 3 De La Salle (17-10) entertains No. 6 Lusher Charter (21-11) at 6 p.m. The District 10-3A rivals split a pair of regular season meetings with the Cavaliers winning 57-52 at home and the Lions winning 64-61 at home.

In Division III, No. 4 Riverside Academy (16-16) looks to stay hot, hosting No. 5 Holy Savior Menard (19-12). The Rebels have won seven straight games and have won five state titles under Timmy Byrd.

No. 7 Newman (15-7) plays at No. 2 Country Day (20-11) at 6 p.m. The Cajuns dropped their final three regular season games while the Greenies have won nine of their last 10 games.
