Boys Basketball: Lafayette Christian eliminates St. Charles Catholic; 17 area teams in quarterfinals Friday

Boys Prep Basketball Playoff Report

The challenge of overcoming a talented team on the road was too much for St. Charles Catholic.

No. 2 Lafayette Christian led from start to finish to down the No. 7 Comets 46-30.

The three-time defending state champion Knights led 9-6 after one quarter before expanding the lead to 25-13 by halftime. It was 32-19 going to the final quarter.

LCA (24-9) was led by Victor Dupre with 13 points, Jerquin Edwards had 11 points and B.J. Francis finished with 10 points.

Lafayette Christian, which won its state titles in Division IV and moved up this year to Division III, will take on the winner of Friday night’s game pitting No. 6 Northlake Christian at No. 3 Episcopal in the semifinals. The Comets finished a fine season 24-12.

Friday night, 17 area teams seek semifinal berths.
