Bowling: St. Paul’s downs Hammond, SSA defeats Ponchatoula

St. Paul’s came from behind Monday to down Hammond 20-7 at Tangi Lanes in Hammond.

The Tors took the early lead, winning game one 5-3 as Richard Plauche fired a 223 game. Peter Bertucci shot 213 for the Wolves. Hammond won the game by three pins, 954-951 to take the two bonus points.

St. Paul’s rallied to dominate game two and game three by 7-1 margins in each game.

In game two, Jonathan Wellmeyer fired a 237 game while Bertucci shot 208 for the Wolves. Blake Opial had a 194 for the Tors.

In game three, Wellmeyer led the way with a 204 game while Plauche had a 212 for Hammond.

Wellmeyer finished with a 612 series while Bertucci had a 610 for St. Paul’s. Plauche finished with 626 to top Hammond while Opial finished with a 545 series.

St. Paul’s improved to 3-0 with the win while Hammond fell to 1-3 with the loss.

In girls action, St. Scholastica defeated Ponchatoula 18.5-8.5.

The Doves took game one 6-2 as Aubry Hymel led the way with a 160 game. Alana Knight was best for the Green Wave with a 182 game.

St. Scholastica won game two 6-2 as Maddy Pye erupted for a huge 258 game for the Doves while Hymel contributed a 175 game. Knight had a 191 for Ponchatoula.

The Green Wave took game three 4-5.3-5 as Knight finished off a 589 series with a 216 game while Alexis Newman added a 151 game. Hymel finished off a 503 series with a 168 game while Amy Schneida had a 161 game.

Pye was tops for SSA with a 564 series.

With the win, the Doves improved to 3-1 while Ponchatoula moved to 1-2 with the loss.
