Bowling: Shaw, Brother Martin, Jesuit, Patrick Taylor, Holy Cross, Cabrini post Thursday wins

Archbishop Shaw swept the middle game to take a commanding lead and went on to a 21-6 victory over Archbishop Rummel in boys bowling action Thursday at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.

The Eagles (3-0) led 5-3 after the first game, but captured all eight points in the second game to virtually wrap up the match.

Shaw rolled a 3,201 team series, led by Andrew Hill’s 614 series that included games of 244 and 203. Jonathan Freeman had a 552 set and Joshua Collins a 548 for the winners.

The Raiders (0-2) were led by Steven Mixon’s 222 game and 529 series, followed closely by Joshua Doredant with a 528 and Matthew Fletcher with a 524.

Brother Martin 26½, St. Augustine ½: The Crusaders used their entire roster and still fired a 3,638 team series in defeating the Purple Knights at Colonial Lanes in Harahan.

Brother Martin (2-0), in its first home match since winning the 2021 state championship, started fast with a 1,305 first game. The right pair was dominant in game one as Jacob Vangilder rolled a 256, Carson Colletti a 253 and Dylan McDonald a 247.

McDonald had a 262, Ricky Carmona a second consecutive 235 and Vangilder a 227 in game two, when Brother Martin rolled a 1,221 team game. Will Buras had a 230 to lead the way in the final game.

St. Augustine (0-2) was led by Niles Manuel’s 144 final game.

Jesuit 24, Pearl River 3: The Blue Jays swept the opening game and rolled to a victory over the Rebels at Bowling USA in Slidell.

Jesuit (3-0) got a 626 series from Gary Sims in the anchor position, but also got some big scores from the left side of the lineup. Collin Pierce fired an opening-game 244 from the No. 2 slot, while Preston Roark had games of 220 and 243 from the leadoff spot.

Tyler Spiehler accounted for two points and fired a team-high 486 series for Pearl River (1-2).

Patrick Taylor 26, St. Therese 1: The Tigers opened with a 1,061 game en route to a dominating victory over the Phoenix at AMF.

Preston Jones had a 247 and Reese Elwood a 213 in the first game for Patrick Taylor (2-1). Jones finished with a 594 series and Elwood with a 575 set.

St. Therese (0-3) got a 161 middle game from Ryan Hebert for its lone point. Jonathan Mendez had a team-best 426 series.

Holy Cross 19, Kenner Discovery 8: The Tigers won seven of eight points in the final game to pull away from the Swamp Owls at AMF.

Holy Cross (2-1) got a 212 opening game from Jackson Haro, who finished with a 530 series.

Damon Robinson had a 183 first game and Chris West captured a pair of points for Kenner Discovery (1-2).

Girls – Cabrini 23, Kenner Discovery 4: Despite bowling short-handed, the Crescents prevailed over the Swamp Owls at AMF.

Cabrini (2-0) was led by Rachael Conaway’s 494 series, followed by Jaiden DeGeorge with a 465.

Kenner Discovery (1-1) was paced by Taylor Daniels’ 422 series.
