Jesuit wins bowling tournament in Baton Rouge

Jesuit rallied to defeat Catholic High in six games to capture the boys championship in the annual High School Invitational bowling tournament Saturday at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge.

Unlike regular high school matches in Louisiana, in which six bowlers per team roll traditional games, the invitational event has teams competing in a Baker format – where five bowlers on a team each roll two frames per game.

Jesuit was fourth after a 10-game qualifying round in which the low two games are dropped. The Blue Jays needed a rolloff to defeat top-seeded Dutchtown after the teams each won 3½ games in the best-of-seven match.

Catholic High, the third seed after qualifying, defeated Brother Martin in seven games to reach the final, then carried that momentum into the championship, winning the first two games over Jesuit before the Blue Jays reeled off four consecutive victories to take the title.

Brother Martin defeated Dutchtown in six games for third place.

Coincidentally, Jesuit will face Catholic and Brother Martin will meet Dutchtown in regularly scheduled matches Thursday afternoon at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner. Crescent City Sports will live stream both matches.

Academy of Our Lady finished third in the girls division. Dutchtown defeated Denham Springs for the girls title.
