Jesuit’s bowling team set one state record and flirted with another in a 24-3 victory Thursday over Patrick Taylor at Westside Lanes in Harvey.

The Blue Jays (8-1) fired a 3,951 team series on games of 1,330, 1,386 and 1,235. The total of 2,716 through two games set a state record – ironically, topping the mark of 2,676 set a year ago against Jesuit by Brother Martin. Jesuit’s three-game total ranks No. 3 in state history, 61 pins off the record of 4,012.

The bottom half of Jesuit’s lineup was extraordinary, combining to average 238 for nine games. Gary Sims led the Jays with a 744 series on games of 264-256-224. Luke Wood fired a 706 on games of 252-238-216, while Ben Hunn had a 693 set (211-258-224). All were season-high series.

The solid scores weren’t reserved for the bottom of the lineup. William Adams had a 617 and William Carpenter a 612 series for Jesuit, while Michael McGovern came off the bench with games of 205 and 208.

Jake McInnis led Patrick Taylor (5-3) with a 563 series.

Archbishop Shaw 24, Kenner Discovery 3: Also at Westside, the Eagles climbed back above .500 with a convincing victory over the Swamp Owls.

Shaw (6-5) had an 1,174 middle game led by Jonathan Arena’s 246, Jonathan Freeman’s 234 and a 217 from Garrett Alello.

In the opening game, Alello also shot 217 while Arena had a 203.

Victor Cortes paced Kenner Discovery (0-8) with a 430 series.

Denham Springs 23, Archbishop Rummel 4: The Yellow Jackets fired a 3,469 team series in dispatching the Raiders at Premier Lanes in Gonzales.

Cade Fletcher led Denham with a 688 series, including a 253 middle game, followed by Quincy Brown’s 670 and Mason Ballard’s 641.

Josh Bares had games of 222 and 211 to lead Rummel (5-3).

Girls – Cabrini 20½, Mount Carmel 6½: The Crescents won seven of eight points in the middle game in defeating the Cubs at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.

Calley Chauvin led Cabrini (4-3-1) in game two with a 196 and finished with a team-best 504 series.

Taylor Hunn of Mount Carmel (1-7) was high in the match with a 512 series, including a 212 third game.
