Archbishop Chapelle and Dutchtown, the two highest-average teams in the state in girls bowling, met 21 days ago in a high-profile regular season showdown. The Griffins prevailed 17-10.

Both teams won a pair of matches Wednesday at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge in the early rounds of the Ochsner LHSAA girls bowling championships to set up a semifinal rematch next Thursday.

The Chipmunks (13-1), the No. 5 seed, and the top-seeded Griffins (14-0) will be joined in the semis by No. 2 seed H.L. Bourgeois and sixth-seeded and defending champion Denham Springs, each of which also won twice Wednesday as the 16-team girls bracket was trimmed to four.

Chapelle, seeking its second title in the last three years, defeated New Orleans region rival Cabrini for the fourth time this season in the opening round, 21-6, then clinched its semifinal trip with a 21-6 victory over No. 4 seed Byrd.

The Chipmunks had a season-best 1,097 opening game and followed that with a 1,014 in taking the first 16 points against Cabrini. Mia Bella Harvey led the way in the opener with a 215 and Elizabeth Hamilton had a 216 middle game.

Leah Heller’s 152 final game was the best of the day for Cabrini (8-5).

Against Byrd, Chapelle rolled a season-best 3,063 team series. Olivia Bares had games of 225 and 246 as part of a 645 series to lead the Chipmunks. Alexandra Young turned in a 547 series from the No. 3 slot while Elizabeth Hamilton had a 541 and Mia Bella Harvey a 524.

Dutchtown, whose ultra-deep lineup resulted in a state record 10 qualifiers for the March 31 state singles championship, lost a total of 14 points to its 11 regular-season opponents not named Chapelle. The Griffins continued that trend Wednesday, defeating Pineville 27-0 and Ellender 25-2 to reach the semis for the third consecutive year.

Displaying its depth, Dutchtown had a season-high 3,289 series in the opening round despite using its starters for only one game each.

Ellender reached the quarterfinals after winning an appeal following its 14-13 opening-round loss to St. Amant. The LHSAA disqualified St. Amant for improper use of electronics by one of its bowlers during the match.

The other New Orleans region team in the playoffs, two-time champion Academy of Our Lady, was eliminated by Denham Springs 23-4 in the opening round. Laney Sasso had a 605 series to lead AOL, which finished 8-5.
