Bossier Parish’s Paul King wins back-to-back Louisiana college basketball player of week honors
BATON ROUGE, La. – For the second consecutive week, Bossier Parish Community College guard Paul King has been named the men’s college basketball Player-of-the-Week by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association. King was selected by panel of voters from the list of nominees for his play during the week of Feb. 24-Mar. 1, 2020. King was the player-of-the week last week.
On Feb. 26, King scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Cavaliers to a 104-100 win over Creating Young Minds Academy. King’s 40 points were the most points scored by a BPCC Cavalier in over 10 years. He went 15-for-29 from the field, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, and was 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Not only was his 40 points a career-high for King, but it was the most points scored by a Cavalier in a game this season, and came a week after his previous high of 31.
The Monroe, La., native, and Ouachita Parish High School product followed that performance by coming off the bench to score a team-high 26 points to lead BPCC to a 94-87 upset win over No. 6 Tyler Junior College. He was 9-for-14 from the field, 2-for-2 on three’s and 6-for-7 from the line to lead the Cavaliers to the biggest win in recent history.
His two stellar performances has led the Cavaliers to a 20-10 overall record and 12-7 Region XIV record. The 20 wins are the most by a BPCC team since 2004-05, and the 12 Region XIV wins are the most since moving into the region in 2008-09.
