After moving up from an assistant role to take over the Lakeshore baseball program last summer, Gary “Boomer” Nunez coached the Titans to a state championship game.
Two days after the state final, WGNO Sports reports Nunez is out as head coach after administration told him they plan to go in a different direction.

Lakeshore went 23-13 in Nunez’s one season at the helm, making a playoff run as a No. 8 seed than ended Saturday in Sulphur with a 4-0 loss in the LHSAA Division II Non-Select title game to Iowa.
The native of Chalmette is a Northshore High alum who took the reins at Lakeshore in July 2022 when head coach Rowland Skinner stepped away from coaching to become the Lakeshore’s assistant principal. Nunez is an experienced head coach in both baseball and football, including eight years at the helm on the diamond at Archbishop Hannan.
