Booker T. Washington whips Dunham to win Sugar Bowl boys state title

It is safe to say that Booker T. Washington basketball is back!

The great history of the brand and legends such as Ted Washington and Bruce Seals showed that it is a forced to be reckoned with at the 10th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Prep Classic, winning the boys’ state bracket with a convincing 70-51 victory over Dunham Saturday evening at the Alario Center in a game seen live at CrescentCitySports.com.

Booker T. Washington opened the game on a 9-0 run before Dunham awakened and cut the deficit to 14-9 by the end of the first quarter.

The Lions had an 8-0 run in the second quarter to open up a 24-11 lead before the Tigers had a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 26-20. Booker T. Washington closed the half on a 4-0 run to lead 30-20 at the break. Michael Johnson had 10 points in the half for the Lions.

Dunham scored the first four points of the third quarter before Booker T. Washington answered with a 10-0 run to open up a 40-28 lead and expanded the lead to 50-31 by the end of the quarter.

The Lions were able to substitute in the final quarter and maintained their sizeable lead for the victory.

Coryell Pierce led the Lions (15-5) with 17 points, four assists and three rebounds while Kyran Ratliff had 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and he was named the Most Valuable Player of the event. Michael Johnson added 14 points.

Carlos Stewart led the Tigers with 23 points while Salle Wilson had 18 points and eight rebounds.
