Basketball: Bonnabel, Ponchatoula win in girls play Thursday

Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Dec. 2

In girls hoops action Thursday, Bonnabel won at Abramson 39-19.

A pair of seniors led the Bruins. Oberyell Celestine scored 20 points while Brittany Allen added nine.

Bonnabel (4-3) returns to action Saturday morning at Glen Oaks at 11 a.m. The Commodores (3-3) will play at M.L. King Charter at 5 p.m. Friday.

Defending Class 5A state champion Ponchatoula whipped Ellender 65-30.

Ponchatoula took a 10-3 lead after one quarter and led 23-16 at halftime. The Lady Wave blew it open in the third quarter, outscoring Ellender 22-9 to take a commanding 45-25 lead.

Alyssa Hillard topped the Lady Wave with 20 points and five rebounds and four steals, Amaya Gervais scored 17 points and Libby Thompson added 11 points and six rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.

Jamia Singleton topped the Patriots with 12 points.

In the East St. John Tournament, Ponchatoula (3-3) will play Salmen Friday at 6:30 p.m.
