Bonine: LHSAA sports return subject to Louisiana’s phase status for Covid-19
LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine made two crucial points Monday before a state House committee about the potential for high school sports including football this fall.
1. Contact football practices and games cannot begin until Louisiana reaches Phase 4 of its reopening.
2. Flipping fall and spring seasons has been discussed but is not the LHSAA’s first option in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bonine gave committee members a chart which shows what athletes can do in each phase of reopening.
In Louisiana’s current status in Phase 2 until at least July 24, schools are locked into individual conditioning workouts. In Phase 3, football teams can do 7-on-7 intraquad limited contact drills.
