Bonine, Cicero, Steltz, Brown, Curtis, Foster, Phillips, Powell to speak Tuesday at GNOSF QB Club Luncheon

LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation President/CEO Jay Cicero, former LSU star Kevin Steltz, Karr coach Brice Brown, John Curtis coach J.T. Curtis, Kentwood coach Jonathan Foster, Warren Easton coach Jerry Phillips and Amite coach Zephaniah Powell will be the speakers at the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Rock’n’Bowl, 3016 South Carrollton Avenue in New Orleans.

In his fourth year running the LHSAA, Bonine previously served in the same capacity at the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association.

In his 24th year with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, Cicero previously served as General Manager of the New Orleans Zephyrs and assistant general manager of the Shreveport Captains.

A former star at Archbishop Rummel, Steltz played fullback at LSU from 2001-05 and was part of a national championship team in 2003.

In his fourth year at Karr, Brown has led the Cougars to consecutive state championships and has his team in the Class 4A state title game against Warren Easton this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

In his 50th year at John Curtis Christian, Curtis has won 26 state championships, most in Louisiana history, on the field and has his Patriots in the Division I championship game this Saturday at noon in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

In his fifth year at Kentwood, Foster has his Kangaroos in the Class 1A state title game for the second time in three years. He led Kentwood to the state championship in 2015.

In his third season as the head coach at Warren Easton, Phillips has the Eagles in the Class 4A state final against Karr Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after leading Easton to the semifinals in 2016 and 2017.

In his fourth season at Amite, Powell led the Warriors to the Class 3A title game in 2016 and has Amite in the Class 2A state championship game Friday at noon in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Speakers from the Saints, LSU, Tulane and prep football will address the audience weekly each Tuesday, along with special guest speakers from the sports world locally and nationally.

A local high school player of the week is chosen throughout the season with a metro prep player of the year announced at the end of the season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Lunch is served.

In addition, Chevron sponsors student-athletes of the week, who receive plaques and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom.

Annual standard membership is $50. Luncheons are $20 per person for members and $25 per person for non-members for the 16 week schedule (Aug. 28-Dec. 11). All are welcome to attend.
