NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team put up eight runs in the third inning and coasted the rest of the way to a 10-2 victory over the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday at Maestri Field.

DECISIONS
Brandon Mitchell put forth another strong start as he went six solid innings and picked up his fifth win of the year. Alex Makarewich took the loss as he lasted 2.1 innings.

The Privateers started the big inning off with the benefit of a fielding error. From there, the offense put tremendous pressure on Makarewich. It started with Issac Williams who began his big day with a two-run homer to right.

After the bases were loaded from the next three batters, the merry-go-round commenced. Miguel Useche singled in a run, Anthony Herron Jr. drew a bases loaded walk, Mitchell Sanford hit a two-run double and Dylan Mach singled to score another. A second run came home on a throwing error.

When the dust settled, Mitchell went in cruise control and held the Demons to just one earned run (two total) in six innings of work.

From there, the bullpen took over and kept the Demons quiet. Caleb Seroski, Nolan Daniel and Jack Williams all pitched around early traffic generated by the Northwestern State lineup. All three combined to keep the Demons from getting any closer in the run column.

To put an exclamation point on the game, Williams homered again in the eighth, marking his third multi-homer game as a Privateer.

It was also the tenth win for Blake Dean against Northwestern State and the 16th win for Mitchell in his career.

INSIDE THE BOX
Williams drove in four runs on his two homers and three hits. Kasten Furr went 3-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Sanford went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Useche and Mach each had a hit and an RBI. Jack Williams is now at 9.2 career scoreless innings in three appearances against the Demons.

Broch Holmes homered and went 2-for-3. Michael Dattalo scored the other run for the Demons. Dawson Flowers threw 3.2 scoreless frames of relief.
