Area Prep Volleyball Report for Saturday, Sept. 12

It is quite apparent that the state may want to pay close attention to Ben Franklin, as usual, in 2020 Division II volleyball.

In 2019, the Falcons of Jodee Pulizzano reached the state championship match, falling to powerful Teurlings Catholic in the final.

This season, the Falcons opened their season with an impressive five-set victory over a good Madison Prep squad.

On Thursday, Ben Franklin downed always tough Ursuline Academy in four sets.

Friday, the Falcons took it a step further, outlasting defending Division III state champion Cabrini in a five-set thriller 17-25, 25-22, 25-22, 13-15, 17-15 in a back-and forth, hotly contested match.

Maddie Meeker led the way for Ben Franklin with 16 kills and a pair of aces, Laurette Compass finished with 12 kills, Kate Humphrys had 42 assists and Annabel Allen produced 40 digs.

Ben Franklin (3-0) returns to action immediately, hosting St. Martin’s Episcopal at 4 p.m. Saturday while Cabrini (1-2) lost its second straight match and the Crescents will travel to River Ridge to face John Curtis Christian next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Patriots will be in action Saturday in New Orleans against powerful Academy of the Sacred Heart at 11 a.m.
