Ben Franklin downs Northwest, Ponchatoula handles Ellender at Sugar Bowl tourney

WESTWEGO – In consolation bracket games of the 11th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic at the Alario Center, Ben Franklin defeated Northwest 43-35 while Ponchatoula defeated Ellender 66-53.

The Falcons (15-7) were led by junior Petra Trumbach with 15 points, eight steals and seven rebounds while senior Jada Washington finished with 11 points and four steals and junior Alevia Benetrix had eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Ponchatoula jumped out to a 20-7 lead after one quarter and led 35-19 at halftime. The Lady Patriots fought back in the second half, outscoring the Green Wave 17-7 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 42-36 and got within three points but Ponchatoula was able to pull away late in the fourth quarter.

Tulane signee Jaylee Womack was superb, scoring 35 points for the Green Wave, including sinking 14-of-16 free throw attempts. Libby Thompson scored 11 points and Taylor Jackson finished with nine points for the Green Wave (17-2).

Jasi Jenkins led Ellender with 18 points while Jamia Singleton scored 13 points and Laikyn Spry had 10 points for the Lady Patriots (14-6).
