Belle Chasse-Easton, Slidell-Ponchatoula top Thursday football slate

A pair of big district matchups highlight the Thursday evening prep football schedule locally.

In District 9-4A, unbeaten Belle Chasse (5-0) travels to Pan American Stadium to take on third ranked (CrescentCitySports.com) Warren Easton (3-1) in the district opener for both teams.

The Eagles are led by senior quarterback Lance Legendre, junior running back Ashaad Clayton and senior wide receiver Kiaeem Green. Easton is coming off a 38-20 loss to John Curtis Christian.

The Cardinals have pitched a pair of shutouts and only given up 22 points in five games.

Belle Chasse features senior running back Ralph Jones, along with junior quarterback Jordan Mariana.

Warren Easton defeated Belle Chasse 36-7 at Belle Chasse last year. The Cardinals have won five straight against Warren Easton, Including a pair of victories over Belle Chasse in 2015.

The Green Wave (2-3, 0-2) have lost two straight to open district play but remain a potent offensive squad, led by junior quarterback TJ Finley, an LSU commit and senior running back Tyjae Spears, a Tulane commit.

Finley has completed 82-of-166 passes for 1,626 yards and 17 touchdowns with just two interceptions while he has rushed for three scores. Spears has rushed 81 times for 533 yards and five touchdowns and he has 26 catches for 516 yards and seven touchdowns. Senior Tay Cole is the top receiver with 29 receptions for 601 yards and seven touchdowns.

Slidell (3-2, 2-0) has district wins over Hammond and Covington.

Senior quarterback Jacob Guidry leads the Slidell offense. Guidry has completed 68-of-96 (71%) for 1,142 yards with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. Guidry has also rushed 21 times for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Harlan Dixon has rushed 90 times for 668 yards and four touchdowns and he has 24 receptions for 434 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Tito Simmons has 18 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns. Simmons also has 18 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown.
